Horse Riding In West Sumba

NIHI Hotel

The NIHI herd includes Sandalwood ponies and a few Indonesian cross thoroughbread horses, to accommodate guests of different heights and weights.

All the horses are ridden in a bitless bridle and even though they look “small”, they are very strong and sure footed. While you shouldn’t expect dressage-trained horses, the Sandalwood Stables team does a good job at training them so you can enjoy a safe ride on the beach or in the hills.

Sanubari

Facilities: Trail Rides, Photoshoots, Horse Swimming

Sanubari has a small herd of horses (7 at the time of writing) which are available for beach rides, swimming with horses activities and photoshoots.

They are all Sandalwood ponies and as such, the weight limit is 65kg and it’s recommended that beginners stick to activites done at the walk only.

Alamayah

Offers: beach horseriding, swimming with horses

Alamayah owns a handful of horses, often seen grazing just outside the rooms. They use Australian tack, brought back by the owners themselves who are horse lovers.

Retreat guests can book horse activites. Beginners are recommende to stick to walk-only activities.

Horse Riding In East Sumba

Red Rock Stable

Offers: Outdoor arena, basic riding lessons, outdoor trail riding.

The only public horse riding stable in East Sumba, hosted inside the Kambanbiru resort: Red Rock Stable offers beginners’ lessons on local Sandalwood ponies and imported horses.
